Whether you live in Hayward, San Mateo, or anywhere else in the San Francisco Bay Area there comes a time when you need to replace the heating system in your home. Like any other equipment, your furnace won’t last forever, although it would be great if it would! However, you can extend the life of your furnace with proper care and maintenance, but how do you know if it’s time to replace? Here are a few questions that will help you determine if it’s time to invest in a new heating system.
Does it seem your energy costs are increasing? While the furnace isn’t the only thing that impacts energy costs, it’s one of the biggest factors. If you’ve had your heating system regularly maintained and taken good care of it but energy bills continue to rise, it may be time to replace.
Is your furnace 10 or 15 years old? This is about as long as most furnaces will last, 15 years on the high end if it’s properly maintained. If you’re having issues on a frequent basis, it’s probably time to think about replacing your system.
That brings us to another question – does it seem that you’re having problems regularly with your furnace? If those repair costs are adding up, it may make more sense from a financial standpoint to have a new heater installed.
Is your home staying warm? In some cases homeowners experience rooms that are uncomfortable. This could indicate the heating system you have isn’t properly sized for your home. If this is the case, your family won’t be as warm as you’d like, but utility costs will be higher. Consider having a system that’s the right size installed.
Does your furnace have an AFUE rating of at least 78%? Today’s high efficiency condensing units have an AFUE rating of up to 98.5%, which means you can enjoy a comfortable home while greatly reducing operating costs. If your furnace is older, it likely isn’t up to par with the high efficiency units available today. Why spend more than you have to for comfort?
